cilicone & mounting a scope

Ive herd of people putting a dab of silicone on there rings when mounting a scope, has anyone else done this

Never heard that one before. I have had grip paper installed in rings before though.

Some put a dab of latex rubber glue spread it very thin then sprinkle it with coarse grade lapping compound.
Others prefer to put some powdered violin rosin on the lower part of the rings.
