circular mark pattern on boltface

Just noticed when cleaning the M-305 there are several shallow indentations on the boltface, in a simetrical circular pattern about the same diameter as the primer pocket on the casing would be. I hope I don't have a soft bolt. I can see why the parkerizing would wear on the bolt face but why there would be minute indentations on the metal itself I don't know. I have only about 300 rounds through this weapon, and these marks were not there new. I also have garands and such with a much higher round count that do not have suck marks. Again, hopefully it is not because I have a soft bolt.

Anyone else notice this? Any ideas as to the cause?

Thanks

All the bolts I tested that were a light grey'ish colour were the same as TRW USGI in hardness. I did find 1 bolt that was very dark coloured that was dead soft. This mirrors results from other poeple who have tested Norc bolts in engineering labs also. If your bolt is light coloured I wouldn't worry about it.

Its not unusual to get a burn ring the same size as primer pockets in a bolt face--some are worse than others but most rifles will show some sign of it.
