I recently purchased a used Browning Citori. Minus some minor discolouring on the receiver finish, it's in very good shape. I was hesitant to spent $2k+ to get into shooting trap, so going used seemed like a good option. I've taken it out once, and overall, I'm quite happy with it.
Today I decided I wanted to buy some additional chokes for it. After taking it to my local store to buy chokes, I discovered that this shotgun doesn't use standard Browning chokes. Instead, there are 'Briley Series 1' chokes installed. They are very thin. The notches for the wrench are much smaller, and the threads are at the end nearest the muzzle (opposed to Browning chokes, where the threads are at the opposite end). Some pics below.
Did Browning previously use different chokes? Did Browning not used to have interchangeable chokes? Was my gun threaded independently for chokes?
Right now I have 2 skeet chokes for the gun, and that's it. I actually shot trap quite well using the skeet choke, but I'd obviously like to get some proper chokes for trap.
I see Briley offers a wide variety of chokes, including thin-walled chokes (http://www.briley.com/12gaugethinwallchokes.aspx). Will these work for my gun? Visually, they look quite similar, but I don't want to order only to find out they don't fit.
And does anyone know a Canadian vendor that might have the necessary chokes in stock? I'll order from the US if necessary, but I'd prefer to order from a Canadian vendor to avoid extra shipping, customs, etc.
Any advice is appreciated.
