Hi,

I have a Browning Citori Lightning that I wouold like to use for duck hunting. I've had the shotgun for about ten years now. It's in like new condition, with a high gloss finish on the stock and forend, as well as deep blueing on the metal surfaces. Of course the receiver is also lightly engraved. Let me be clear at this point, I don't like shiney firearms for hunting, but I really want to use this shotgun for duck hunting. I don't have any intention to ever sell the shotgun, so here is my dilema. Do I perform a sacrilegious act, and take fine steel wool to the stock, and have all metal surfaces cerakoted, or do I leave it like it is, and just take it out to the club for trap and skeet as I have been doing. I also have a Browning SxS, I am contemplating doing the same thing to.

First, I would strongly recommend against the conversion method you are planning to adopt. Keeping those firearms in their original state of finish will retain a better value even if you do not intend to sell those at any point in time down the road.

Instead, use the following product. Camo Form will not adversely affect the finish of the firearm (either wood or metal) in any manner whatsoever. The product could easily/quickly be removed and simply reused afterwards. Moreover, the tape doesn't leave any residue anywhere on the firearm post removal. Personally, I have experimented with the product and found that to be exactly as advertised.

Edited to add: I also ought to mention that should you decide to go the non-permanent route of wrapping up the firearm with such type of camouflage - ensure that the tape is removed asap particularly after a wet hunt and the firearm cleaned/lubed as appropriate.

I have done lots of hunting with Citori's having the Browning Hi-Gloss finish... none of the ducks, geese, turkeys, grouse or pheasants ever seemed to mind...

I would also suggest the mossy oak camo kit it removes residue free and is like $25 or so. Don't wreck a $1000+ shotgun.

Thanks for all the advice. I realize it affects the value of the firearms, but if I don't intend to get rid of it what does it matter. I don't think changing the look of the gun, is equivalent to wrecking the gun. Actually, I think I would like the look of it. Nevertheless, your comments have given me something to think about. Again thanks.
