Wondering if some of the Browning experts would be kind enough to clear up which models have what characteristics. I purchased a new to me Citori manufactured in 2012. I found a video of what looks like the exact model but am still uncertain. The sn ends in 131, it has the Price of Wales grip and silver receiver. It is oil finish with nicer wood than most hunter models, gloss bluing, honey cone type recoil pad. The confusing part is a gold feather on the bottom of the receiver and a weight of 7.3 lbs. for a 12 gauge where the specs say it should be 8.2 lbs.

Does the feather make it a White Lightening Feather or does the standard White Lightning have the feather and is a lighter design as well?

Any insight would be appreciated.
 
You are exactly right. I tried a magnet and it locks solid on the bottom but just slightly to the sides of the receiver. It locks hard on my other OUs. It appears to have steel on the inside and the rest is aluminum alloy.

Yes sir the feather on bottom means you have yourself a White Lightning Feather. Same guns other than the already mentioned alloy receiver which will have a steel insert on face of receiver for strength. If you insist on using a 12g and plan on walking more than shooting the Feather is the way to go.

I find the 12 gauge(s) I have pattern anything over an ounce much better than a 20 and I like heavier loads in the late season. This one is a nice weight but not really too light I don't believe. It is basically the same weight as my Caesar Guerini field 12 and just a 2 ounces lighter than my SKB 500 12. I haven't shot it yet but it seems to fit me exceptionally well and that is the biggest factor in recoil for me.

I always wanted a nice Browning OU but the 8.2 Lbs. plus was was a bit much for me. I had a 20 Citori and although I shot it well, it was heavy for 20, fixed chokes and very plain wood/receiver. This one has nice engraving, well checkered and I would rate the wood at III/IV.

It's weird that they don't mark them other than 131 and the gold feather. I would have had one of these much sooner if I had known they existed.

Hopefully get out today for a few rounds and try it. Thanks for your help.
 
The steel insert in the reciever is there to prevent the shot shell bases and steel barrels from gouging the alloy reciever when you open and close the action. I had a Franchi with the alloy reciever that did not have the steel block and the reciever was gouged out after a few seasons.
