City advises of possible cougar sighting in Valentia area

City of Kawartha Lakes officials say they have received a report of a possible cougar seen in the Valentia area last week.Officials say the sighting took place on Aug. 28 in the Valentia and Ramsey Road area. The City notified the Ministry of Natural Resources, who will be doing an investigative search of the area to verify the sighting.
While no attacks or injuries have been reported, City officials are asking residents to use caution and abide by the following safety tips to avoid unwanted confrontation with wild animals:
- Do not leave children unattended;
- Avoid walking alone on paths at dusk or dawn;
- Do not leave garbage or food or empty pet food bowls within reach of wild animals.
Officials say a cougar or any other wild animal should not be approached. Seek a safe and secure location.
If you see a cougar in the City of Kawartha Lakes, report your sighting to the Ministry of Natural Resources by calling (705) 755-3361.
