as taken from impact guns online:"For anyone who's interested....I just got off the phone with FNH and have learned that there newly projected date to launch the civilian version of the Scar rifles is sometime around April or May of 2008! Not exactly great news for those of us who were hoping it would be sometime this year but at least its a date and is better than no date at all i guess. DAMN!! gotta wait another whole year now!!"

also previously, long before the above quote:"Just wanted to shoot some info out to anyone who is anxiously waiting for FNH to come out with the civilian version of the SCAR rifles like I am. A couple of months ago I sent an email to Mr. Paul Evancoe, who is the dircetor of military operations for FNH USA and inquired about the possible production time of the SCAR rifles and he replied with this.....

"Bob, we are considering offering a semi-auto version of both the SCAR-L and the SCAR-H perhaps during 07. We will likely offer both the Light and the Heavy with the 3 barrel lengths (CQC, Assault and SV) so you will have the option to change barrels and quickly tailor the gun to meet your needs. I suspect that we will initially offer the SCAR-L in 5.56 NATO followed by 6.8 Rem. The Heavy will be offered initially in 7.62 NATO followed by 7.62x39. All you'll need to do to change calibers is change the barrel, the bolt face and the magazine which takes about 3 minutes. Thanks for your interest. Stay tuned. r, paul"

Hope this helps out some......"

both are here:

the first, more recent one is "new SCAR update"

and the second, older one is "Civilian FN SCAR Production Info"

it seems that the SCAR H civ will be here soon (fine 08 is long time away, but still)??

now is there any Canadian gun companies in contact with the FNH?

Maybe you dint notice that the FN FS2000 and PS90 arent being imported by any firearms dealer whatsoever... What you think the SCAR's chances are? WHile probably legal the US will never sign off on export, especially now when folding stocks are banned, let alone guns with them.

but both the FS2000 and PS90 are extremely short smg or carbines that could be "hidden", while the SCAR H is a lot larger the SCAR L is not exactly short either...

 We can buy handguns in Canada and your reasoning is length?:bangHead:

Congratulations. With this single post you have doomed yourself to being laughed at for the duration of your stay with us at CGN.

The ones i saw at SHOT2007 in FL were marked as made in Belgium.
I was told that the prototypes are being built there, then once they are ready to go into full production, it moves to the USA.

As the US is getting really wierd about not exporting "military" stuff to foriegn civilains, even if it is widely available to US civvies, dont expect to see US made SCARs up here.
Now if the Belgian FN plant were to continue to make them......

yes the scar is more just a day dream it really sucks they stopped exported the fun stuff up here :(

Arrrgh! Stupid US export laws. I was really hoping to get my hands on a SCAR when they came out. Here's hoping that FN doesn't give Canada the cold shoulder, and makes some for us canucks to import!!

Wow - it's starting to feel like Lightfighter over here! Poor guy.

What are the criteria or reasons the US has restricted export on some of these 'military' type rifles but not others?

Simple they are in a war and they have stuff they found in IRAQ (like night vision and kit) that where purchased by expatrid in the US then shiped to the insurgents. This made everyone very nervous in the US so they decided that EVERYTHING that has to do with modern millitary gear would be restricted from export. also they decided to block all export of non sporting rifles :puke:

I find this odd. Why would an insurgent buy expensive American gear, when they could get cheap Chinese and Russian stuff that works just as well? Honestly, it just sounds like more gun control, but with a different excuse.

Because it doesn't work just as well?

Not really. These guys have access to quite a large amount of money, they probably don't need to budget. They'll buy the best if they can just like anyone else and I will bet that not much has changed when it comes to quality control for Chicom/Russkie gear, especially night vision gear. Sucks for us but it's a pretty good excuse for the government.
