I'm looking for a clarification on something....

The wording in the PAL rules, as I understand them, states that: (paraphrased)

you need to have a PAL to Purchase or possess firearms
You need to have a PAL to Purchase ammo

Does that mean you can possess ammo with a PAL?

The reason for my question: I'm still waiting on my PAL, but will be going on a little trip with a PAL holder. IF we happen across some good deal, could the PAL holder do the actual purchase and I be allowed to transport the ammo back to my home after we part ways? (They live a long way from my home)

Your friend would be unlawfully providing ammunition to a person not permitted to posses it. Mentioned in several docs but this is likely relevant..

25. A person may transfer ammunition that is not prohibited ammunition to an individual only if the individual

(a) until January 1, 2001, holds a licence authorizing him or her to possess firearms or a prescribed document; or

(b) after January 1, 2001, holds a licence authorizing him or her to possess firearms.

You can pay for it, but cannot have possession of the ammo. Of you come across a good deal have your froend buy it and hold it, once your PAL arrives you tgen pay him and take possession of the ammo.

Even in reloading a PAL is not required to purchase components, but once assembked then you need to have a PAL to possess the ammo.

this is what i did, about a month before i got my pal in my hand, i had quite the mountain of rifles and ammo filling my buddies safe. he was after me constantly to call in and see if its done yet, he needed the room for his stuff..lol

I had same issue found wicked deal on rifle and ammo , buddy made the purchase and has kept everything at his place until my pal arrives.. there is no legal way to obtain ammo without a pal period..

So much BS in this thread.

There is no law saying you can not possess ammo without a PAL.

The only law on it is the one posted above in post #3 which is for the transfer of ammo. It is illegal for him to give it to you, but not illegal for you to have it.

That's been my understanding as well. As far as I know if you come upon a box of ammo in the street there is no law against you picking it up and keeping it. I am not a lawyer though, and I selpt at home last night.
