What do you suggest for a portable clay pigeon thrower in the under $150 price range? I'm looking for something fairly compact and reliable.

I have a trius one step. Put maybe 8 cases of clays across it, no problems. I like it, compact, economical, and can shoot by yourself if you want. It's the only one I've ever owned so I don't have anything to compare it to though.
I want an automatic one now...don't know what'good in that department.

another vote for the one step, no one goes home with a sore shoulder from pulling back and setting the spring

Really? A lot of gun clubs I know don't have that option available for use.

And if you're non-res, then you also don't have to deal with things like "your black shotgun isn't allowed to shot clays here"...

Never seen "your black shotgun isn't allowed to shoot clays here" happen at any club I ever belonged to?!! As for private use of the range with your own clays and thrower well that only makes sense. How would the club keep it's doors open and provide a nice range if members didn't buy targets and showed up with their own along with their own throwers? Do you show up at a golf club and just use the club's carts, gear and grounds free gratis?

It's amazing how many people want to "borrow" the range facilities using their own trap machine. Not only do they not buy a day pass or a membership but pick up unbroken clays off the range or want to buy a case of targets at cost since if they have to buy a case of two at a retail store they pay a hefty price. And just to add insult to injury, they don't pick up their empty hulls. Basic slobs!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, TV-presspass has a tale of such an incident and a few others joined in there too. Check his threads to confirm my comment.

And I know many ranges just don't have anything anyways. No rent, no built into membership fees, no option really. So get your shiny membership, but no facilities, so you still gotta buy a machine anyways. Glad to hear Llyod is ahead of the game compared to many places I've been. I'll have to look into getting sent that way for work sometime to check it out.

OP wanted a machine not a membership so he's either looking for use at a range he belongs to without one, or to use in a safe area with non-restricteds.
