Hi all. Anyone know of a good place where I can get formal Clay shooting training?

I can join a club but it’s many chickens and eggs - investing in membership, buying a gun, etc before I even know if it works for me.

I am a newbie to sport shooting so hard to get this any other way - to me a training course seemed like a sensible way to move forward.

maybe approaching this all wrong so happy to learn and get feedback.

I did a one on one shoot with an instructor on clays before I joined. Good way to get a solid base of skills too.

I'm not familiar with the clubs in your area but a lot of them in my area have local shooters who are certified as instructors and are more than happy to rent you a gun and instructor for as long as you like. That way you can try out different guns while getting tips on fit/function and get to know if you even want to pursue the sport before shelling out big bucks for a gun and membership.
 
You could always buy a good used gun for a fair price, try it out and if it is or isn’t for you then sell it for the same price or similar if it isn’t for you. You don’t need anything fancy, just a good one that is desirable. An 870 or model 12 would be a good start.

Uxbridge clays will help you get started. Give them a call. They have skeet, and a great sporting clays course set up for beginner shooters.
 
There is a chap named Doug Baker who is a certified instructor that regularly offers lessons for a very reasonable price at various clubs in Southern Ontario. I believe he has some affiliation with the Uxbridge club and/or the Oshawa club, might be worth a call.
