I have been reloading 9mm over the last year using Hodgdon Titegroup. I find it really sooty.
The bullet weight seems to make no difference. I have tried 115gr, 124gr and 147gr jacketed and plated bullets.

Can someone reccomend a cleaner powder that I can use for these three standard weights?

Thanks.

VV 3N37 & Hodgdon HS-6 are good for me

I find Unique to be fairly dirty. Try VV, I hear its good.

I think Unique is fairly clean burning.

If you want clean burning ammo, you need fast burning powder and a powder charge that's liable to burn completely before that bullet leaves the barrel. Having a jacketed or plated bullet base tends to help.

Think faster than Win 231. Tread lightly, as the faster burning powders also peak lower. For IPSC, you only need 125 pf, and 132 is good insurance.

I just started loading Alliants Bullseye. I put 150 rounds downrange yesterday and its pretty clean.

The VV N320 is about the best you can buy IMHO. Just sometimes hard to find.

A light load of 231 is sooty too.. I find the finer grinds AA or 231 work well if loaded hot... the OP doesn't say how hot he's loading them...

I find Unique clean burning if used in a moderate load of at least 5 gr with a 124 gr bullet. If loaded too light it is indeed somewhat dirty.

I am using Ranier plated bullets. I find plain cast bullets leave a large amount of residue, this could be caused to a large degree by the bullet lube.

How about Longshot? I have not used it yet, but I recently got 5lbs from WSS. Still waiting on my press and dies, but when looking at powder specs this looked good. Anyone else have comments on Longshot?

I found Longshot to be filthy. Perhaps it would burn cleanly at max loads, I don't know.

I've tried well over a dozen powders for 9mm, and none of them touch VV N320 for cleanliness, especially with lower charges.
