Hi guys,

Wondering here if anyone knew if it's possible to clean up GI style slide serrations without welding... If possible, would a gunsmith charge a lot to do it? Any insight is appreciated!

Got a Nork from the CanAm deal, shoots great, but the slide serrations are ROUGH... Not all the cuts are straight, a couple have major dents, is there a way to have this fixed without spending too much $$$?

Is this common on GI style Norinco 1911s?

Thanks!

you can try fixing them yourself or have a smith do it - mind you the cost of a smith doing it and refinishing it might be more than what the gun is worth.

- edit -

just thought of something, i've seen some competition guns with skater tape on cutouts where serrations would have been. in your case just covering them with tape will save your hands, quick and cheap to implement and best of all, non permanent.

Norc slides are tough to machine it'll be expensive just use a few small files and try and take the dents out a $350 gun is just that.

Are you pissed because they look like dog poo or are they cutting you and making you leak red stuff?

It's a NORINCO after all. If the serrations are cutting you then stone or file off the sharp stuff, touch it up with some cold blue and carry on. They are what they are.

If you want neatly machined serrations then buy something where they spend more of your dollars making the outside look and feel nicer.

I only see two spots where the metal is a bit folded....I'd make a custom punch on the grinder and try to tap the metal back into place....if I was going to try what you are suggesting but in reality I'd probably just enjoy it as a cheap gun with wartime like quality of production.
The broken plastic grip looks authentic to.

A folded sheet of 120 grit wet sandpaper and oil in each groove will remove most of the roughness with a minimum of effort. Then cold blue & you're good to go.
