Cleaning a 22lr bolt action

wow, this is mostly all news to me. I better stop cleaning the bores so much!
Grantmac, I do agree that the c7's get A LOT of cleaning for the amount they get fired. I Guess i never really thought you could clean a firearm TOO much

I'm in the don't clean it until accuracy drops off group. I do take a toothbrush to the bolt face periodically to remove stuff that sticks to it. I think a boresnake is sufficient to remove wax in the chamber and burnt powder in the barrel that might attract moisture. Solvent and patches has done nothing to improve my 22's accuracy, only worsen it for the short term.

cleaning your 22

I hate to tell you this . but I think I have never run a cleaning brush through my 10-22 . I have ran a patch through the barrel but never a brush . call it what you will ? neglect whatever . I do run a lightly oiled patch through to make sure the barrel won;t have a chance of rusting then clean it out before shooting . and it shoot;s great with it;s redfield tracker 3x9 scope on it . you guy;s who take your rimfire apart after every time you shoot it will make it loose . you can do more damage then good . screws get stripped recievers get scratched from slipping screw drivers etc . they become loose . if I see MUNG - CRAP inside my reciever then I;ll clean it . other wise I;ll run a patch with bore cleaner through then a lightly oiled one . and tell me how you damage a bore with a bore snake ????? aren;t they covered with plastic of some kind??? the way you do damage can be from abuseing the crown at the end of your barrel and too much cleaning . a bore snake cleans from the action . and one piece cleaning rods with a nice coating on them is the way I go . but you work with what you have and can afford . happy shooting . :dancingbanana:
