Cleaning a model 1911

You found this helpful? You're learning from a guy who doesn't even know the proper names of the parts he's dealing with ? AND not sure how to take the slide stop out??? THIS is NOT the way to learn how to work on a 1911!! NO WONDER so many posters have SO much trouble with VERY SIMPLE and basic issues of the 1911 if this is the kind of crap they're trying to learn from!!! Buy a Kuhnhausen 1911 shop manual BOOK! READ IT! COVER TO COVER! Quit wasting your time watching videos ANYONE can post otherwise you will continue having the same problems!!!!

So, Amazon has the Kuhnhausen 1911 shop manual listed for $125.00.

Thanks, but I don't think anyone needs to spend half the price of a used Norinco 1911 on a shop manual. Hickok's video was just fine for an easy method of field stripping the 1911. There's 1000s of 1911 vids on Youtube, take your pick.

Do your homework! Kuhnhausen manual is available from Brownells for $31.99 - if that isn't worth it - ??????

So what. There's a pirated .pdf available for free. I'm saying a manual like that is not needed for a simple field strip. If you want to get into detailed inspection, repair and accurizing fine and dandy, spend your ammo money on the book. For the new 1911 owner who just wants to field strip and clean it, it's not necessary, especially when there is a multitude of instructions available for free.

There was a vid a while back for a bushing tool that looked interesting..I just keep the bushing wrench held tight after turning the bushing, and use it to hold the plug in place as I slowly release the tension..

well, for 1 thing, you use the TOE OF THE MAGAZINE to compress the recoil plug- no bushing wrench or thumb pressure needed- the 1911 is it's own tool kit when u use the components as described in the usgi manual- also, I don't know where he gets his info, but on my 1911 , you rotate the BARREL BUSHING to the left ( it's a collet type) and the bushing stays ON THE BARREL AFTER you release the mainspring- something tells me hickock didn't go through basic or wasn't fielded on the 45 acp
