cleaning a norinco

I picked up 2 norinco 22s yesterday and spent the evening cleaning them. The packing oil(cosmoline?) Wasn't too hard to get off but the smell seems to stay behind. I was wondering what I should use to properly clean them. I tried the oderless hoppes but it didn't do it. One has a wood stock and the other is synthetic. Aaron

shoot it lots and you get rid of that smell and have a nice gun powder smell

It fades over time, but I find the lingering has to do with it oozing out of the bolt (on my backpacker) forever. Each use, the amount was less...cleaned-up each time..now not an issue at all. Gun shoots great.
