Cleaning a war finish

I just recived my first pistol an Enfiled No. 2 Mk. 1*, and I would like to clean th exterior (it is dusty, etc.) but I do not want to damage the finish.

What is the best way???

I just use patches soaked with bore cleaner. Let it air dry without handling it, otherwise it'll fingerprint.

Dust comes off with a regular paint brush. Then just give it a bath with regular solvent like Nyles says.
