Im a newbee to firearms and i just recently got a new winchester model 94 and im a bit clueless on how to clean it.

Ive just cleaned the barrel and everything i could see with the action open.Is this sufficient? Or do i have to take the whole think apart and clean all the inner workings? If so, then what are the steps in dissassembly?

I would greatly appreciate any personal recomendations or helpfull
how-to websites that i can learn off of.

Thanks!

yeah, i bought the riffle brand new.
but shouldnt i clean the bolt assembly?i cleaned what i could get at by just opening the action but is more needed?

Clean the bore with a BoreSnake or with a rod from the front using a muzzle protector.
For the action, if you don't want to go the full monty, you can flush the innards with the action opened with a stuff like Rem-Clean then blow it dry with compressed air.
A few drops of gun oil in the bolt and block races and you'll be good for a while.
I take my Win 94 apart fully once a year, before putting it aside for the winter season.
Have fun!

Many '94's have never been taken apart. Their design is largely self cleaning. You do need to watch for dirt and brass filing acumulating in the extractor cut in the rear of the barrel, and put the odd drop of oil on the action bearing surfaces. (don't get carried away with the oil.)
Complete disassembly requires a mechanical mind, a good screw driver and a good pin punch. I suggest you not attempt it until you are more familiar with the rifle.
If the action is stiff, work it briskly a few thousand times, and it will free up.
Don't do this publicly, or the neighbours will all think you've become a delusional John Wayne.

I have a Win 94 that I have personally owned since 1957--wipe the mud off it once in awhile and occasionaly run a patch thru the barrel--hit it with a shot of WD-40 once every couple of years. Rifle looks like a piece of crap but it works and shoots fine --just like me--I expect it to outlast me too.

Unless you have step by step instructions,(you can get books at Wholesale or SIR)
I would'nt try.The book I use was published in 1967,and I still have trouble stripping mine  ,

Just clean the barrel, open the action, spray a degreaser inside, wipe it out with a rag, give it a light spray of G96 or some good lube, work the action, and that is it....if you start twisting screws, I guarantee you will be visiting your local gunsmith with a bag of parts ....... unless something really gets it dirty (like fell in a mudhole) dont do a breakdown unless you know how to reasemble. It'll be cheaper that way.

For all the good reasons stated above, don't try to disassemble it yourself. The other thing with the '94 is that, if it is disassembled/reassembled, the barrel has so many points of contact with other parts of the gun that I would follow-up with a trip to the shooting range to verify that the point of impact has not changed. The '94 is the polar opposite of a free floating barrel!
