Cleaning an Enfield Web Sling

I have a couple of standard Lee Enfield web slings that are kind of grungy and could use a cleaning. Could they just be put in the washer and put through a cycle without harm? I'm sure it'd look a lot better but I don't want to remove the ZL&T printing etc.
Or wash them by hand in a bucket of soapy water and hang to dry?

Surely getting wet would have been normal for these...

I wouldn't put them in the washer, for many reasons. You could try hand washing them with some Simple Green in a bucket. Let them sit overnight in it maybe.

Clean them by hand, Wash using mild soap and try to not clean off any markings or stamps. Dry by using a towel to sponge off the excess water. Lay out flat to dry. You could also hang from a hanger. Don't get too excited, they used blanco to colour the slings for parade. Your might have blanco on it? Basicilly, it might be naturally grungy from use.
