Cleaning corn cob media

FYI. I clean my dirty corn cob media. Dump it in a pail of hot water and some dish soap. Stir. And rinse in a wire strainer. Spread it out on a couple cookie sheets to dry. Comes out like new.

Can't remember. Been using it for over 10 years. Think it treated it's green.

I buy a big bag of walnut shell media from the pet store for $10 and throw it out when it's dirty. Big bag will last a few years.

I tried this in the past but didn't use a strainer. I tried some other silly method to get the water out and it didn't work.

I personally like corn cob better. It gives a nice shine. I put a capful of polish in every batch. Walnut comes out kinda dull. I like using walnut for dirty brass. Then I will buff em up with corn cob.

I think it cleans stubborn soot deposits a bit better and quicker than corn cob, because it is a bit more abrasive. ReloaderRick is correct that corn cob shines a bit better if that's what you're going for.
