cleaning cosmoline off m305?

How far do you break down the rifle to clean? Disassemble the entire trigger assembly? etc?
Hell ya.
Take it completely down and have youtube on stand by. Not only will it help ya better understand the workings of this rifle platform but it will ensure that everything that you have is in great working order before you let her rip.

Can-ammo ships them oiled in a plastic bag ...but you still need to wash it ....field strip it, wash it with hot soapy water ..Simple Green ...is what I used..Rinse with the hottest water you can stand and wipe it dry.
I did mine in my bath tub …but I have no one to complain about where I wash what
Grease it properly ..put it back together …take it shooting
I finally got my m305b today and i see it has arrived oiled in a plastic bag as you said, is that cosmoline or just oil? I assume cosmoline is like a grease, no? I plan on using simple green as you suggest rinse and grease. I was going to use hoppes#9 to oil all the metal except the parts that need grease.

You got it. Light coat of gun oil on all metal to prevent corrosion, grease on all parts where metal moves against metal.

I got my Norc m305 yesterday and it was oiley nothing i would call a waxy grease though. I stripped it down and some hoppes eliet to clean it all down and she is clean and dry. no water or break clean needed with my norc.

I used oil where needed and wilson combat Ultima grease for where the grease is needed and she cycles as smoth as a baby's but

How is cosmoline not smelly and water not messy. I always have that issue where you're washing your hands in the restroom and the faucet splashes water all over your crotch, making it look like you didn't shake. Admit it, it has happened to you as well, and dry humping the hand dryer doesn't work as well as you thought it would.

Haha! Seems that this "splashing" problem has become more prevalent the older I get. Damn new fangled faucets!!

I know I'm gonna get flak for it but I've personally showerd with my cosmoline covered rifles (sks x2, cz858 and m14) a bunch of a$$hats on this forum called me all sorts of names like troll and what not but it worked for my platoon in the army and it works in the civi world too (imagine that) I used dawn dish detergent it cuts that grease like no ones business and you and your rifle smell great after

When I purchased my SKS it was literally dripping goop. Here's what I did:

-complete tear down, cleaned all metal parts with brake clean and then applied a light coat of transmission oil, except the trigger group, used Remington dry lube
-put the wood pieces in the garage and sat with wifey's blow dryer, heated them, used a cloth damp with varsol, wiped them, heated, wiped and repeated process for about 4 hours--keep beer nearby. You know you are done when no more cosmo comes out of the wood when heating it.
-rubbed all wood parts with full strength liquid Murphy's Oil soap, let dry
--touched up scratches with wax furniture repair pencils from home depot
-applied several coats, for first coat heating wood parts with blow dryer, Howard's Feed and Wax. Subsequent coats applied every couple of hours with warm wax but room temperature wood

I now have an sks with a beautiful, hard finish. PM me if you need any photos or tips

No joke I just used some hopes elite cleaner and she cleaned up nice. No waxy thick grease on my norc it is a 2012 manufacture

Hungry could I be wrong did I miss something maybe?

Mine cleaned up really easily, Just wiped off the excess oil with an old cotton t-shirt, broke it down, greased the parts I was supposed to and reassembled. I have had to wipe some oil off the bottom that seems to have accumulated at the end of the stock every other day but other than that there was no grease, mine is also a 2012
