Cleaning Handgun Beyond Field Strip?

I've put a few thoughsand round through my M&P and the trigger is starting to feel a little gritty. I can visually see gunk near the trigger area when field stripped and I'm sure there's gunk elsewhere in places I can't see.

I've thought about soaking everything in some type of solution, but I'm not entirely sure how well the polymer would stand up to this.

What can I do to give it full cleaning?

I love the Omni cleaning stations! Target sports has one. Field strip, soak everything in the solution while brushing in the nooks and then compressed air dry. The sh*t gets everywhere you cant!

Spray it with break cleaner, or take it down to all its bits. Hot soapy water works followed by an air compressor or hair dryer.

This. Don't bother stripping to bits unless your bored. Brake cleaner and blow it out with compressed air will do all you need to do.

I take my M&P apart once a year (8,000 - 10,000 or so rounds) give it a full detail cleaning then drop it in an ultrasonic cleaner for 5 minutes. It takes about an hour start to finish.

Be careful with the brand of brake cleaner you use on the polymer guns. I've seen two Glock and one M&P melted by brake cleaners.

AGREED!! Air intake cleaner is a better choice as its more compatible with plastics. If brake Kleen is the only option, get non-chlorinated and test it on a spare grip insert or a small spot inside before pouring it in there. Products like "Action Blaster" and such are the same basic idea. Its the way I clean mine every 500 rounds or so

What is that? Are they able to purchase?
Or are they just huge? No handheld ones?

They are not handheld and idk if it would be really practical to buy one for just yourself as im sure they are pricey.

The point is that if your range has one of these or something similar to it then just clean at the range. Its like giving the gun a detailed cleaning after every shoot and it takes 5 minutes to do it!

Thanks for the ideas everyone. So after cleaning, there will obviously be no lubrication left on the entire gun. Will I need to lubricate anything on the gun besides the usual spots that the M&P manual suggests? For example the striker assembly, trigger areas, sear housing?

You will get a few different opinions on this. Personally I give any aarea with moving parts a squirt of G96 and a drop of oil on the striker pin. Then work the pin back and forth a few times to get it in there. Most people like probably tell you to put nothing in the trigger assembly but that never seemed right to me. A "little" bit of lube on everything is good in my eyes. If it moves, it should have lubrication
