Hey there, my 490 has started to jamb up and seeing as it's been sitting for a few years I started cleaning it. Lots of gunk in and around the bolt, but I think it should be stripped down and cleaned really well. After removing the action from the stock there is the big nut ahead of the covered action and then the action covered with a plastic or metal cover. Can that cover be easily removed without the guts falling out? I'd like to get the bolt out, any tips on that.... I know it's big brother the 100 can be a nightmare to get back together....thanks

The 490 is pretty much a fancy Cooey 64. Unbolt/unscrew the various items and take them all apart. There are no surprises, no hidden pins, no threaded barrel, remove one part and you'll see the way to proceed. Reassemble in reverse order. Take a picture beforehand if you're unsure. The trigger group is all one assembly; no need to take it down any further in order to clean it.

Then just pull the bolt handle out, and slide the bolt forward through the hole where the barrel was.

When reassembling, take care to align the magazine "L" bracket carefully. If you have feeding issues once assembled, THAT is where to adjust out any play with the magazine.
