Bought a new Rem 700 SPS in 7mm-08 yesterday, so before hitting the range,I gave the bore a little cleaning......Amazing how dirty a new gun really is! My question is this: Roughly how many rounds should it take to see the accuracy start to show after you've cleaned? I shot 20 rounds and didn't get any sort of a good group. Here is the Down low of the day:
-Temp- ~-4c.
-100yrd range
-Federal factory 150grn Powershock.
-Sand bags.
-4 shot groups, cooling between each set.

Thanks for any hints/tips....Will be appreciated!!!

First thing I would do is remove the action from the stock and make sure it is clean and dry. This is one thing about Remingtons that people rend to overlook, cleaning solvents can creep down the front bedding screw.
Second thing to try is different ammo.

After cleaning I usually get 2 bad fliers, and then after the third one things seem normal again. Try different ammo, do you have a scope, are the mounts tight, if so what brand. I had a Leopold on one rifle and the locking nut on the objective was loose. I tried a lot of different things with that rifle and could never get anything to shoot a good group, I was ready to throw it in the creek, tightened up that locking nut good and instantly started shooting good.

It has a Bushnell 3200 on it, mounted when I purchased it. Everything seems tight. After next weekend I'll be rolling my own for it. See how things go then! Here is a pic of one of my targets, its 8.5x11 sheet, two 4 shot groups, one shot actually missed paper!

Thanks for the tips guys, greatly appreciated!!

It is amazing, the stuff that comes out of a new barrel. I have even had metal shavings appear. Check the barrel bedding for high spots after all screws have been tightened. After the first 20 rounds, do a good cleaning with a copper remover and try again with the same ammo. If things don't improve, its off to the loading bench.

Good Shooting
