today i cracked open my bushy AR that i didnt clean for a while.

i found like HARD caked on carbon all over the guts, i guess i should of cleaned it b4 i moved.

well is there a easy way to get to the inside? like dip it in some solution that will soften/dissolve the carbon but not the metal or the finish? i guess i am just trying to get a nice quick sqeaky clean rifle, since it usually takes me 2 - 3 hours to detail my AR

my friend suggested 98% isopropanol(?) i have no clue what this stuff is, but i dont want it to eat my finish

please advise guys,

thanks lots.

that's rubbing alcohol, the kind you get at Shoppers

the alcohol should not damage your finish.. but your best bet is to dip a q-tip in cleaning solution and go thru the insides....

Douse everything with a bit of CLP (Break Free CLP from your local shop). Open it up in a couple of days and wipe clean. Most of that carbon should have softened up by then.
