I figured I would ask this one here due to the nature of people who tend to shoot for groups and targets.....I know the rule is to only brush one way down a barrel when you are cleaning, but what I was wondering is just how much damage a bronze bore brush could do to a steel barrel if you went back and forth.

none if you use a chamber and crown protector and push alla way past the crown and chamber:D;)

A properly fitting brush should not be reversed while inside the barrel. Going back and forth is not a problem otherwise.

If a bronze brush can be reversed while in the bore...its too small, or worn out, to be real effective.(Unless you're dealing with some real big bore size.) A bronze brush can't hurt your bore, more danger from the cleaning rod, protect with a bore guide, or muzzle guide if you have to clean from that end.

IMHO

If you have a good barrel and clean frequently, why use a brush at all? Let the chemical cleaners deal with the fouling and carbon, then patch it out and use a thin coating of your favorite lubricant. I haven't used a bore brush in years and my .308 shoots in the .1's".
