Cleaning rod and bore guide.

I have 5 Dewey rods and 3 Dewey guides. All have worked very well except the thin rod for my .17HMR. One tight patch and the rod bent on me..

I recently bought a Tipton carbon fiber rod after reading about them on the 'Hide. Really nice rod, they are stiffer than the Dewey's and will return to straight after bending. Only used for the .17 so far but I'll probably buy a larger one as well for use on my 308 AR since it takes more elbow grease to get the carbon out. Cabela's carries the Tipton rods

Sinclair makes action and caliber specific rod guides for a good price.

Most rods are good. The only ones I had any troubles with are Bore Tech's cheaper line. The coating is coming off my 22cal rod.

I just bought a tipton bore guide from amazon.ca 20$ shipped. Then for cleaning rod i bought the modular shooters choice cleaning kit (fits nicely in gun case) It has the 5 pc stainless sterl rods, and the anodized aluminum handle. Real quality rods. The entire kit was 50$ at lgs

I use Dewey rods and Lucas Bore guide. The Lucas guide has an insert for the rod which fits in the guide. I have used the Sinclair and Dewey guides and they work well but the Lucas was made specifically for my AI rifles action

I have several Tipton carbon fiber one-piece rods and am very pleased with them. I do not use a bore guide when cleaning from the chamber. Not sure where you are from, but both Wholesale Sports and Cabelas have them. You could have them shipped if there is no store nearby.

Another option that you may want to look into is an Otis coated steel cable cleaning kit, especially for cleaning a semi-automatic rifle. It allows you to clean from the chamber to the muzzle and reduces the risks of damaging the crown; a bore guide is not required. I have two kits as I prefer to have a cable with a patch puller and another one with a bronze brush to speed things up. Very pleased with the Otis but use it mainly for semi-automatic rifles as the patches are a bit more expensive, i.e. about $20 for 100 patches although each patch can be used 6 times theoretically. In practice, depending on the amount of bore fouling, it is more like 3 to 4 passes per patch...

You can order directly from Dewey in the U.S. for a good coated rod. they deliver to Canada.
For guide= Dewey or Sinclair.

I like the Tipton rods other than they have a brass collar on the end, I wish it was aluminum so you don't get a false copper trace on your patches. The Tipton universal bore guides aren't that good IMO. I would be looking for something better with an O-ring seal.
