Okay - so here's a serious newb question ... what do I need to buy in terms of cleaning supplies? And how often should stuff be cleaned?

I've put 100 rounds through my 10-22 in the last 3 days and guaranteed I'm going again today ... but I'm guessing that it should be cleaned fairly regularly?

it's a 22- there's almost no need unless yo're fussy- couple of patches through the bore every 500 or so and that's it- all i do- patch soaked in bore cleaner, brass bore brush to scrub out the residue, then patch till it comes out white,( it'll be blue to begin) ) and one more patch to oil - q- tip to take the crud off the bolt face- shouldn't take any more than 10 minutes- the main thing is you don't want to OVER CLEAN- that'll introduce wear on the crown, - overcleaning wears out a bore quicker than anything else- the key is watch when the accuracy drops off- when that happens, CLEAN IT- 22 ammo is pretty variable with lead bullets, copper washed bullets, different powders, whatever- if your gun isn't feeding , chances are it's not the gun or the cleaning, but the ammo

Buy a kit. Go to a discount fabric shop, buy a couple of yards of remnant flannelette and cut into 2 x 2 inch squares. Ask the women who work there if you don't know what flannelette is. Think winter PJ's/sheets. They're used to guys asking questions.
100 rounds isn't much. On a semi-auto .22, the action usually needs cleaning more often than the barrel. Very important to clean and re-oil in cold weather. Cold steel brought inside will get condensation. That needs to be removed to prevent rust.
