I don't see much protective greasy stuff on the gun but something is there. Would that be cosmoline?

If it's cosmoline, how to get rid of it? Turpentine?

I kind of don't think though they put cosmoline on them as they were recently built (2013 if I am not wrong) with existing parts; these are not 50 - 60 year old guns taken out of storage, like SKS for instance.

The gun did seem somewhat "dry" but had a film of something on it from the manufacturing process.

I flushed the bore with boiled water. The striker, carrier, cover, op-rod and other parts were cleaned with Simple Green, rinsed with hot water and dried with compressed air. In the receiver I used G96 and a Q-tip then Outers oil for reassembly.

After 60 rounds I field stripped and repeated the process. Found some metal specs in the bottom of receiver from the mating of the parts, but that is to be expected.

Took mine out today and gave it a good cleaning after firing the corrosive through er. Sprayed everything down with hot water then cleaned up with solvent and compressed air and brake clean. Everything cleaned up very well. No rust anywhere. That paint that they painted the receiver in seems very tough and very protective of the metal under it.

Would those cans of compressed air (usually for computer cleaning) do the drying job after the hot bath or I need to get a compressor?

Yes, That would blast out the water from the bolt/striker area.

The reason for boiling the water is that it will quickly evaporate from the heat transferred to the metal. Just keep the water away from the wood.

No cosmo on mine, just a light film of oil, was happy about that.

I did take her out the weekend for a couple hundred rounds of corrosive through it, here's the question, the cz doesn't have a gas tube like the sks, so I presume I have to remove the lower handguard as well to clean the underside of the barrel?

I washed everything else with boiling water, then wd40 and rem-oil on top but I don't have a compressor to dry it off, didn't have time to remove the lower handguard last night.

I had asked CZ USA what would be required to do in terms of cleaning before shooting our CZ 858s before shooting them for the first time. They recommended to address this question to the CZ warranty centre in Ontario (actually I believe they are for the whole Canada, Grech Outdoors).

I called Grech and they said: No cosmoline or similar hard stuff on these guns. Just get rid of the excess oil with normal products like G96 and shoot them happily.
