Ok guys, I have a new M-14/M305 with a cleaning tool in the butt stock. I know about the cleaning rod and how to attach the tool to the rod, my question is the small end of that tool. it looks like a scraper of some sort. What the hell is it? I just cant find any info on that tool at all. Does anyone have an idea as to where I can find this info? Thanks in advance,
Cheers,
Armouredtrooper...:)

it's not- it's a blade screwdriver for taking your rear sight apart, turning your gas port on/off,etc- anything where you have a screw head- like most buttstock field expedient kit pieces , it's bloody awkward and best left inside the butt and make up a tool kit from commercial sources

Glad you found the Xhinese combination tool in that buttstock cavity of your rifle. :)

Now look carefully at the contoured surface alongside that screwdriver end. Notice the shape of that circle on the end? It's got a machined surface that allows you to compress the ejector while that screwdriver blade interfaces UNDER the extractor. A clockwise rotation of that tool with the screwdriver blade underneath the extractor will allow that bolt to be disassembled. PLEASE don't do this (even if many of you go and do it....)

Just flush out your bolt innards with some Gunk Engine Degreaser or Brake Cleener. LEAVE that assembled bolt alone after cleaning and maybe some compressed air blasts through the firing pin channel is in order. I just let it air dry. Easy peasy.

I never (or hardly ever) pull my bolts apart. Well maybe stripped for headspacing newly installed barrels.....

If you cannot use aerosol brake cleaner (indoors, condominium living, no workshop) then just drop your bolt into a bowl of boiling water. Shake around a bit and let air dry. You will be surprised how FAST that moisture leaves the hot bolt body.... :)

Don't forget to grease your TWO bolt lugs on the reassembly process!

Cheers all!

Thanks everyone for the info! I think I'll take T-star's advice and just use normal tools. I'm not even sure if I should use that supplied cleaning rod and stick with the coated brass rod from dewey that I've been lugging around in my hard case. anyway I tried a UTG scope mount and mounted a tasco 3x9x32 and put roughly 15 rounds through the rifle with Chinese bulk non corrosive mil spec ammo. The MPI shifted to the right and I promptly scrapped that mount. I went back to iron sites and Bingo a 1-1/2 " group with iron sites at 100 meters. I really like this new toy! Ok it doesn't compare to the groups that I get with my Savage M10TR, but for yote shooting and just horsing around in the back 40, it'll do great. Thanks again all!!
