Ive recently got back my Marlin 1895 GS from the police (my house was broken into last month) and there are quite a few dings (not deep) and scratches on it:mad: I was wondering what the best course of action would be to clean it up. I know some have it bead blasted, not sure what to do. the wood is not too bad so im not too worried about that.

thanks for you suggestions.

Steelwool is not supposed to be a good idea, something about the steel getting imbedded into the stainless then rusting. There was some Scotchbrite type stainless polishing pads in different grades available but I can't remember who was selling it, I believe it was WILSON COMBAT or PACHMAYR. When polishing you have to keep going the same way sort of with the grain, other wise it just looks scratchy.

Use steel wool or a scotchbrite pad. Should clean things up for you.
Dave

Scotchbrite pad and flitz, mothers or similar polish. The deeper ones can take some time...just go at it regularly while you are watching a tv show or such....

You can work the gouge anyway/direction, and then match up the grain with the rest of the pistol after.

Watch out for your engraving and other delicate bits (sight etc.).
