Cleaning: which tools do you use? And other questions.

Hello,

I have a few questions about cleaning:

Which cleaning kits do you guys use and why?( As in rods and brushes)

I've read that brass and steel cleaning rod are bad for the barrel and to use carbon fibre or nylon. Any good nylon or carbon fibre kits?

What cleaning and solvent do you use and why?
I'm thinking of switching(from hoppes) to frog lube because I've seen good reviews of it.

What accessories do you use while cleaning?

Any other cleaning suggestions would be great. Tips or tricks.

I use nylon brushes for rifles and handguns, and tornado brushes for shotguns. I barely ever use solvents on anything, mostly just g96.

I also use specialty tools for my AR since the bolt and carrier are a bit of a pain.

I do not use frog lube anymore. I clean my guns with g96 and lube them with ATF and lubriplate depending on the part in question

My 4 staple products are:

Ballistol
Remington Action Cleaner
Remington Brite Bore
Hoppes Solvent

All used with simple rags, jags, nylon brushes, cotton patches & a rod.

You really don't need anything fancy. I have a cleaning kit from Canadian tire because it had a nice case.

I don't see how you could ever scratch up the barrel with a cleaning rod. The army issues metal ones and if anyone is going to break something its a soldier. Never witnessed an issue

I use outers nitro solvent because its cheap and works better than CLP. No need to overthink it. I will use CLP or outers gun lube or nothing for lube. I am not in combat or competitions so not going to over think it. Will probably get frog lube after I run out of CLP and outers though

All you really need is the rod, the swab holder thing, a brush, swabs and the solution. I do use the plastic pick for the small nooks and crannies but that because clean guns make me happy, its not required.

If you shot a lot of ammo dumping some CLP or nitro solvent down the barrel is a good idea so if can break down the carbon as you drive home. If you a bolt action 50 times its not worth doing unless its corrosive ammo
