Hey guys i have no idea what i need to use nor how to clean my firearms. I see alot of stuff at canadian tire, kits and what not. But im wondering what you guys use and where is the best place to get it.

I guess to go along with this what about a gun vice? Same thing i saw a few different ones at canadian tire but wondering which one or type?

Thanks

There's a ton of different products and methods out there that it's hard to say what the best way is. Just look up guides or YouTube videos of people cleaning your specific make and model of gun to get a sense of what people use and do. Eventually you'll find a method that works best for you and that you're comfortable with. You don't really need a vise to clean a gun, but they're handy if you want one.

I'm sure you'll get plenty of opinions, but one thing I would suggest is buying high quality one-piece cleaning rods.
The ones that screw together and come in those little kits are junk.

Get a bottle of Break Away CLP. I like the stuff and it does a very good job on my stainless pieces. Can find it at Bass Pro. Works as a cleaner, lubricant, and penetrates the metal to prevent rust from forming.

You can also apply some after you clean instead of gun oil.

I use Outers Gun oil, but there's also Hoppe's and Remington.

I found with gun cleaning kits I don't need half the stuff that comes with it. I'd suggest you build your own kit. Get the correct cleaning rod for your gun, a bag of cloth swatches for barrel cleaning, the correct sized barrel mop, a plastic bristle brush for heavy build-up in the action etc. Could put a kit together like this for less than $20.
