(I'm trying to keep my options open if I have a problem heating and bending the rods, never worked with them before)

Is there any sort of glue I can use to cover the rods with that wont brown up from the heat? I need something clear

For the sight I'm making, a 2.5" of 0.060" rod will be embedded in a 'U' shape, if it doesn't want to sit flat in its groove on its own, I want to glue it in

basic idea...im probably nieve about bending this stuff

I suspect it will definetly require some sort of glue. Whatever you use could be used on small descrete "blobs" so that the fiber is still mostly exposed to the light and can gather it well. The trick will be finding a glue which won't be lifted by exposure to the oils and solvents often used for cleaning firearms. For a "home remedy" I think I'd try Shoe Goo in small spots about 1/8 inch long in 3 or 4 spots or possibly silicone RTV rubber sealant in the same small spots.

A slightly less "home remedy" solution that I've used with good results in the past is a product called Aquaseal that you can find in scuba shops. It's a tough, somewhat flexible clear setting glue that sticks like blazes to just about anything. I haven't tried it in connection with solvents and oils though.

i also had the idea to drill, tap and csink for a M3 CSFH screw and had the edge of the flare just make contact with the "U" shape

i like glue because in my mind it will hopefully absorb some shock of recoil from heavy use....

Loctite(tm) has optically clear adhesive... You can even use it to cement doublet lenses.

cruising the acklands grainer website right now...most of the loctite instant adhesives (in the under 10 bucks range) seem to be cyanoacrylate, which is basically 'super glue'...all of them state -65 to +180° F...now I'm really curious how hot my sights on my 1911 and sks get (which are my current projects getting fiber optic sights that need some gluing as redundant backup)
