Cleat Feet vs Ski Feet

I recently ordered an Atlas bipod and noticed that they have the option to add cleats or ski feet. I have never used either on a bipod, just the regular Harris. So I was wondering what people prefer. The reason I would like to add these feet is I noticed when shoot off the regular Harris, the feet gradually dig into the ground.

My main focus when shooting is precision. I have noticed the F class crowd seem to like their ski feet, but have not been to enough precision events to make a call either way.

What do you guys like to use?

I am a Harris bipod man. I used mine for a long time with the rubber nubbins that come stock. I then went to a claw foot which was better but I found the claws to be bulky and made it tough to fit into the case, so I ordered some rubber ski feet and these seem to be the solution.

I guess it all depends on the type of under-pod conditions you have.

That being said:

The ski feet are great for dirt, sand gravel etc. I always try to set up so my feet are on my shooting mat somewhere fairly level.

Hope this helps.

Ski feet so that the rifle recoils as smoothly/repeatably as possible. In fact, some will put a piece of carpet under while shooting so we can control the friction with the ground

If the feet dig, you can get vertical on target due to bounce.

My thoughts are the claw would be best as one of the main trains of though for marksmanship is consistency. If you go with the claw, you can load that bipod to a consistent pressure all the time. With ski feet, you will not be able to load the bipod. Don't get me wrong, you can be accurate with a neutral loaded bipod, but you just never know when you are at neutral.

I have both for my Harris Bipod. I use the ski feet for shooting from a bench with the assistance of carpet to help the gun slide and not 'Skitter" like it does with the rubber feet of a harris bipod, for shooting precision on the ground, I use claw feet, these allow you to 'preload' the bipod by leaning in a bit, the result is a much smoother transfer of energy and a better follow thru. The ski feet will not slide smoothly on rough ground using a spring loaded Harris bipod.

The claw feet are worse than useless on a concrete bench, so it depends on what you are planning to use them for

Most Fclass guys find it much easier to use ski feet to keep a consistent recoil as opposed to pre-loading a bipod for recoil.
I prefer a front rest for my rifle, but when messig around on the bench I normally use a standard Harris .
Some people Ii have met like other foot systems .

maybe just maybe

if you can afford it get both if you are going to keep that bipod for a couple of years, then you will know

i bought both sets and an extra leg extension. they at one time made feet that were pointed sharp steel. dug right into a wood table. not available anymore. the feet are 50/set at wolverines

They will be making the pointed feet again soon;) Will anchor into granite rock too if you want to load the legs.

As you already have the Harris you know what style of shooting you like, pre-load or free recoil. If you pre-load then get the claw feet the wide feet and the little tines biting into the ground give you the ability to really load the rifle, resulting in less recoil and the ability to stay on target. If you put little pressure on the bipod and prefer it to slide around (bounce) the ski style feet would be your better option, the ones without the rubber on them just the sliding metal pads.
I have tried the ski bipods and the ones you can pre-load. I prefer the preload and upgrade from a Harris to an LRaccuracy.

I have tired Sinclair, the steel pads for the Harris and the Remple and while I only had a short period of time with the Sinclair and Remple (I own the Harris feet) the only one I could get to run was the Remple and I believe it was the weight and the WIDE foot print that allowed the rifle to slide straight back and not to the side. The skis take getting use to and if more time was spent with them I MAY have been able to get the rifle to track with both types…lots of guys can

For bench like Roberti11 as indicated you need a carpet for the ski pads and you can also use it for the claws. The claws will bite into the carpet allowing you to load the rifle/bipod.

chose the feet based on the way you run your rifle then you can decide claw or ski.

You mention precision shooting as a preferred sport. I own a Mystic 'pod and a Harris 'pod. The Mystic is much better for me. It slides back and forth allowing you to stay in battery with your rifle. The Harris sort of drags and jumps, sometimes off to the side a bit. as a result I think the Harris requires you to take a stronger grip on the rifle stock which may or may not be a problem depending on your preferred grip.

I also get a small indicator of overloading cases in that my Mystic pod jumps rather than sliding back into my shoulder.
