Gentlemen,
These two photo's give you some idea of how the Clips for the M1 Garand were made. Notice how much shine is on the Clips in the second Photo. If you have the time let me know what makes them that way.

What makes them shiny?

Hard to tell from the photo. However, if they are heat treated, they would likely have been pickled (or dipped as some would say). Pickle is an acidic solution used to remove the firescale/oxidization. This would have left them clean and shiny.

In the photo though, it looks as though they are just coming out of the quenching tank, so the shinyness would just be from a film of the quenching media - possibly oil.
