I was considering selling my sks and buying a m14 shortty, I really like semi auto rifles but am not willing to fork over 1k or more for a rifle and the M14 fits the bill.
What options for optic mounting is there available for the m14? What are you using?
I like the concept of a combo sight ie a flip over magnifier but again don't want to fork over a whole paycheque for optics (Im a student and work part time)
The set up I was looking at is the EOTech version that has the magnifier as well as the holo, but it's way to much money for my money, what else is there on the market other than the EOTech?
I would need to keep project below 900$ but less is best!
 
Vortex Strikefire? $189 plus tax from SFRC and they come with a X2 screw in piece. Pick up a X3 flip up when you have the cash and then you can have a X6 optic.

Just my opinion. Add 25 cents and you'll have a quarter.
 
dstactical.com has the strikefire for $169. That's the cheapest I've seen from sponsors (or anywhere else north of the 49th for that matter).

I tried my M14 with an EOtech and it was pretty good, but I stuck with my original choice of an Aimpoint CompML2. For some reason the Aimpoint feels best on the M14 for me!
 
I plan on getting a vortex diamondback 1.75x5x32 for my cz858. Last year, I put this exact scope on a nice rifled slug gun, and I am really impressed with its wide field of view on its low 1.75x, which makes it very possible to find a running deer, looking through the scope, and get a shot off in time. If there is time to reach out, and touch something at long distance, then cranking the magnification up to 5x power makes long ranges just as easy to hit, as similar priced scopes that are set to a higher powered 9x zoom, because the brightness, and clarity of the vortex compensates for the lesser powered zoom, while providing a much wider fov still.
