i was at a gunshop in hamilton, and they had 2 mossbers JIC (just in case) tubes there. its a mossberg 500 in either stainless or blue and packaged in waterproof tube with some other survuval goodies. the stainless model comes with a nice mulitool and a knife. and osts $100 more than the blue model which comes with a "survival kit in a can" and some oth er stuff. anyway, i'm not really interested in the extra ####, or the packaging but the shotgun itself seemed like it'd be nice to own. pistol grip only, so i'd have to buy a stick if i ever want to gun for anything else then blowing stuff up from the hip. but still....despite everything i had a clutch my wallet in a deathgrip and march out of the store before i handed the credit card over. oh and this would be my first shotgun ever. i just like the idea of owning a mossberg 500 sweeper at a very reasonable price. it was $390 i believe. plu ok , i'll admit, its some lever marketing and i kinda want the tube and the extra####. its neat. anyone know anything about these? any input?

A Maverick 88 (made by Mossberg) with an 18" barrel for about $200 from SIR or Wholesale would be a better deal in my oppinion. The 500 models with 28" barrels and interchangeable tubes only cost about $260 from SIR, security models without choke tubes tend to be cheaper, so it seems like your paying a lot of money for a carrying case and a multi tool. I use a 500 Mossberg for waterfowl and its a great gun, nothing against Mossberg but the JIC models are just a gimick in my oppinion.
yeah, it did seem like a gimick at the time, but a damn good one. i have to hand to the marketing people at mossberg. way to profit on the recent natural disasters. i mean, i still want one and i live in southern ontario. and there are cheaper shotguns. actually the exact gun in that package is cheaper on its own. in any case, i'll get to play with the mariner version very soon as the friend that i was with that day in the store could not resist and we'll be going back there so he can pick on up. and now i'm praying that i wont like it. which wont happen...
