close range accuracy question

Hi guys, my last range trip was the first time out with my new xdm9, and it was awesome! Seemed a little snappier than some of the other pistols I've shot but with the accuracy I was getting with 115gr AE ammo I can't complain at all.

At 25 it was a dream, even at 10 it was great. My issue was once we got to 7yds even a centers mass shot seemed difficult ro execute. I'm new to the pistol scene but it just seems the further away my aiming point is much smaller. Up very close it was much harder to pick a aiming point. Any suggestions other than practice to improve this skill?

And don't forget the bullet is still rising when it leaves your muzzle and hits that target at that close range, so the POI will not be exactly the same as POA

Great advice, if only the first round hit center mass

I am not sure what you are looking for here. I think you asked for a smaller aiming point. Your first bullet hole offers you that and then becomes your point of aim. The centre of the hole is the center of mass, no? Aim small hit small. I assume if you are grouping well at longer distances you understand the basics of handgun sight use.

Bullets never raise on earth only drop. But your barrel sight relationship will be different below the 5m mark, but only by a inch max.

Maybe I didn't word it well. By the time we were at that point there were about 15 holes in the target from that drill. The shots started at 25 and worked our way in. I suspect it was more a combo of exertion and being new to the pistol that made it difficult mostly for the up close shots for me. I'm used to doing my shooting just standing on the line. This was an eye opener for me.
