Close range shotgun optics

I know...this has been done before but my situation is that I hunt in very dense bush. The light is poor at times (yes during legal shooting time haha) and the range is close. I have a Leoupold 1.5 x 3 scope but its old and does not have a large lens so its light gathering abilities are not up to snuff. I went to Cabelas and I think some type of red dot is what I need? It has to have the ability to gather light and I dont know if they do that...

I would think that if you are pushing bush, no magnification at all is required, other than, should I dare to say it, good eye glasses. Just my .02

I've never tried one on a shotgun, nor felt the need to, but maybe a Millet DMS might be an option, being a 1-4 with a 30mm tube for better light gathering.
 
I put a Weaver 1x3 scope on my Mossberg 930 12 gauge autoloader. Image brightness and sharpness are pretty good. Loaded with slugs it will group around 3" at 50 yards :) -

I checked out your suggestion. I cannot find anything on Millets website that says what the warranty is on their products. I see they are owned by Bushnell...have not heard anything good about their warranty service but I just want to hear some opinions on this.

1 inch vs 30mm is not going to make much difference in light transmission, the quality of the glass,coatings, and objective size will make a difference though. Anything modern and half decent in the 1-4 range should work well for you, what model leupold do you have? Problem is most 1-4 scopes don't have large objective lenses.
 
The biggest problem i have is seeing the cross hairs. But the versatility of a 30mm scope versus a red dot is what has me leaning in that direction. I hunt with a Savage combination gun in 30/30-12 gauge so I like having something with some magnification.
 
I have a Leupold VXII 3-9x50 and VXIII 1.5x5(maybe 4.5) that I have been very happy with. Given the VXII, VXIII came on a rifle. I have lost confidence in my Vortex SPARC for hunting, 2 replacements.
