Mine was called for my RPAL only but I have heard of calls for PAL recently. I believe they are getting tougher in light of recent events. Never the less, she has to sign the application.
My live-in GF AKA Conjugal Partner of 2 years signed the application for my PAL/RPAL... She was never contacted about it. I think they just want to know that she knows... Like you're not gonna surprise her and her new boyfriend...:stirthepot2:

I guess what we should be asking is why are references of any kind being called at all?

Were references called when you applied for a drivers license? What about your boaters exam?

When you got a dog license for your pit bull was your next of kin called or for that matter did they interview your neighbour with the baby that crawls on the grass of their front lawn?

When you get a permit to have an outdoor fire do they do a criminal check to verify if you are a convicted arson?

Criminals don't exactly abide by an honour system, at least a system we would commonly consider acceptable.

The replies have become personally insulting and useless as advice. Not acceptable. I found this surprising, but then again maybe not. Time to shut it down.

You have to have a mod close this for you, if that's your wish.

I'm a little surprised by your reaction to be honest. You asked for advice on your situation, and reading through the replies there's some pretty solid advice from people who have been in similar situations, along with advice from people trying to think outside the box for you.

The jokes and other stuff that you're insulted by come with the territory (the internet), something that will always be there.

Personally I feel like you've gotten a good amount of useful advice - now we'd like to hear about how that goes down with your girlfriend. No need to be offended by anything here, and if you are, no need to read it.

I think everyone gets roasted on here from time to time...take it with a grain of salt and find a way to get some guns. Haha...I did enjoy how you closed this thread with so much authority :D

personally, i'd hit her with"i had guns before i met you and i'll have guns long after you're gone; " WOMEN ARE TRANSITORY- buh- bye
or" you'll be of great use against 1) russians)
2) chinese 3) zombies, 4) burglars- even if you can "go bang"
yea, though heaven and earth rise up against me, i shall fear no evil, for i HAVE AN UZI

 The internet is full of the nicest people.

My wife used to be a total anti... Probably my fault after she found airsoft bb's in my kid's poopie diaper.

Anyway she signed my CFC 921 on the premise that I only wanted to get licensed and join a club. It was only shortly after that I explained that it's better to own a small pistol that you can get to know and shoot well rather than a "club gun" which I went ahead with only after informing her of my intent and the obvious negotiation on proper storage yada yada.

Now she tolerates me field stripping ARs on on the coffee table while she watches TV.
Signs for delivery on all manner of heavy packages from "tactical" this and "Sporting goods" that.

Point is: baby steps. Don't ask for the end state or maximum of what you want.
Look for the middle ground.

anyways all that to say... IBTL

I lol'd.

My wife would be anti me if that happened, she doesn't blame objects for my misuse of them (it's not the hammer's fault there's a picture in the kitchen placed a little awkwardly to cover the hole in the drywall)...

baby steps is solid advice.

I took an anti shooting once. He went in convinced he wasn't going to like it. I started him on a .22. He said "I see how this isn't dangerous, but how it's fun". Then got him on a .223, a 12ga and a 357 revolver.

He's a gunnut now. There is hope.

I can one-up that one; my wife used to be a liberal! So you see, there's hope for everyone!
