Hey
Was just wondering if there are any club leave PRS matches or practices that are open to people to come try. There is a small group of us from the Ashcroft area and we try and shoot once or twice a month. But we would like to get our feet wet without diving right into a sanctioned match. It would be nice to know what we should be doing when we are practicing.
Thanks
Joe

For practise, lots and lots of videos - National rifle league, 6.5Guys, and shooters doing practise vids. Start with just setting up the rifle to balance very nose heavy so it will sit still on a gamechanger or similar.

Then just learn how to get steady from any prop you can think up... from ladders, to chairs, to tires, to 2X4 barricades, tables, barrels, logs, stumps, posts, poles, top of something, bottom of something, beside something. Anything is good... the NRL vids from the last many years will show many many stages and how shooters work through them.

Also, do unsupported positional shooting as that will help make props REALLY stable.... even when they aren't.

Make sure the scope tracks and the dope is true. Set up 2 MOA sized targets out to 1000yds or whatever distance you can get to. Shoot lots.

Then just come out to a match... BCPRL next season would be a great place to come out.

We're running a 1-day BCPRL match on Saturday here in Pemberton, if you wanna come out? Next one is in Cranbrook on Sept 27-28 (2-day match).

2 moa is probably the average, some bigger, some smaller. Practice with small targets ( I like using about 1 moa) and the targets at matches will seem big.

Most people seem to struggle with the whole "not feeling ready for a sanctioned match" issue but honestly, the best thing you can do is come out and shoot a match. the BCPRL events are low key and there's good mix of shooters from very experienced to brand new. You can learn a lot from watching videos and practicing on your own but the best way to learn is to just jump right in. You'll see how more experienced guys approach props and stages and people will lend you their gear to try so you can figure out what works for you and what doesn't.

I was in the same situation but I jumped in and went to my 1st BCPRL this summer.

My wife tagged along to see what kind of shooting I was talking about and to help with set up.

Didn't know what to expect but everyone we met was friendly, welcoming and very helpful. We had a great time and now firmly hooked into the sport.

You'll see what other shooters are using and that really helps to decide what gear you need.

Now registered for my next match and looking forward to the 2021 season.

We where trying to talk our selfs in to the pemberton match. But I think it’s to late for us to plan now. If there is any more closer match’s this year we have to just do it. If not this season next season.
Thanks for the advice

SA, where are you? Rimfire is actually really common in BC now. The CRPS series goes across most of Canada. If you are in BC, the BCPRL and other groups run LR rimfire PRS events. In ON, there is the Northern Rimfire series, CRPS, Outlaw matches

if you want to play, just put up a post and I am sure someone in your province will chime in.
