Hello,

I have read conflicting information on this forum regarding requirements for purchasing restricted firearms, and obtaining temp ATTs in Ontario.

On one hand, I have read that if you have a club in mind, or are signed up for their safety course, you are able to purchase a restricted and obtain a temp ATT to take it home, but nowhere else. I have also read that you must be a full member and supply your club name and membership number prior to purchasing a restricted and obtaining a temp ATT.

Can anybody shed some up to date information on this?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks.

I own 2 restricted handguns and I still don't belong to a club. I got my RPAL, bought a restricted and told the dealer the name of the club I intended to join. I still haven't joined that club because there's a lot of foot dragging going on there.
That was about 3 months ago, still don't belong to a club and now own 2 restricteds. Probably gonna switch clubs now...

i don`t know in ontario ,but in quebec and nova scotia .you have to send them a copy of your membership card to get your att.

"...send them a copy of..." Non-temp ATT's are dealt with through the club in Ontario. The club in effect sponsor's you for it.
Ontario's CFO makes up their own rules. Mind you, having to belong to a club to shoot isn't new. There's no law that says that though. It's just policy.
I suspect that if you put target shooting on the application and you can only shoot at a range, the policy is you must belong to a club or you can't play.

in Nova Scotia the club has to fill in and send a club rec. you don't have to send a copy of your club card the club will make sure you are a member.I do them all for our club.

I noticed that Questar requires a club membership number on their order form. Does that mean it's necessary to purchase restricteds??

OK you are getting some bad info here. With all due respect to people outside of Ontario, it doesn't really matter what goes on there. :slap:

1. To purchase a restricted, you can simply name the club you intend to join, if you are not already a member. When the transfer from the seller goes through, you will also be issued a temp ATT to bring it home. Expect it to take a long time if its not bought in a store!

2. You cannot get an ATT to take it to your club until you already have a restricted gun registered to you. You can take the club level safety course but your club secretary won't be able to send off the ATT until the first transfer is complete. CFO has been turning those around in about 2 weeks.
