While my wife and I are patiently waiting for our R-PALs to arrive we have been looking into different clubs in our area where we can take our handguns.
Colby shooting club is fairly close but wont let us join unless we take their handgun safety course :(.
Waterloo County Revolver Assoc. is about the same distance from home but I've never been there and don't know anything about it.
Twin City rifle club is the closest, but again I know nothing about it (do they allow handguns?).
There are also quite a few "Rod and Gun" clubs in the area, but from what I can see they are just social clubs and don't have a range. (or do they?)
What would happen if we just dropped in when these places are "open" to see what they are all about?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi Gary, the club level safety course is a mandatory thing here in Bantario and is usually a must from all clubs here in order to get your ATT to transport to the range...It sucks but thats the way it is...

I have shot at Colby before I think its a good club and would join if I lived closer...

I'm not sure if you have to take their course also, but you will have to take A handgun safety course to be a member anywere for handguns I think.

"...club level safety course is a mandatory thing..." Yep. No matter what club you join, the Ontario CPFO has decided you must do yet another course. Mostly a range safety course.
ATT's are sponsored by the clubs in Ontario. Nothing new about it. Some clubs charge for the course, as well.
"...What would happen if..." You'd likely be made to feel welcome and be told what you have to do to join.

Don't forget about the Pioneer Sportsman's Club on Pioneer Tower Road. I was a member about 10 years ago before I moved away and they lost their outdoor ranges. I'm not sure how active the handgun section is but they have a strong group of smallbore rifle shooters with many national team members.

I am at Twin City Rifle Club. Good club, nice group of guys.
300 yard range, skeet, trap, handguns course is 25 yards shortest distance.
Handgun safety course for Twin City is taken at Colby Club. lol

Colby Club in Kitchener is just indoors, so nice in the winter.
If you are just into handguns go with Colby.
I will join Colby this winter.

The ATT/restricted course put on by the Colby Club is Excellent.
Cant remember the guys name but he was great.
In the morning its classroom stuff. Then shoot at the range
for the rest of the day with there guns.
It does not get much better than that. lol
