I was just reading a thread over in the 1911 forum regarding the CMC mags causing damage to the frame of a 1911 because of their followers. Now I've noticed that the thread was started in 2003. Does any know if this is still an issue with the current production of mags?

Yes, upon further reading what you have said is exactly correct. Are the current supply of CMC mags still metal followers? I remember Mecgar mags have metal followers too, is this an ongoing problem with all metal follower mags and an alloy frame 1911 combination?

Yes, CMC mags use metal followers, not sure about all manufacturers being a problem. The CMC mags dont use a skirt on there followers, so the follower can jump forward a bit and that, i think, is the potential problem that may or may not cause a little damage on aluminum frames. If you have an aluminum framed 1911, try using Wilson mags, especially the new "ETM" mags, they have a plastic follower.

There was lots of talk about metal followers causing damage to alloy framed 1911's but I've used every kind from metal to plastic in my Kimber TCII alloy frame with no problem. A bit of finish wears off as with every gun after a number of rounds and some have thought it was metal being gouged but it's not so. That being said the Wilsons are a superior mag anyway so I would use those if I didn't already have a dozen of the Kimber ProTac 8 rnd mags with the teflon coated followers.
