I finally managed to get out to the range and I fired 80 rounds through my MK47. Here are my initial thoughts. take them as you will:
Right off the bat, I will say that the gun had 1 malfunction with CanAm Dominion Steel Cased HP rounds. The round failed to chamber causing the bolt to only close halfway. The nose of the round was jammed up into the top of the chamber. Simple fix of removing the mag and cycling the action. This only happened once and it was on the second mag of the rifle. Never happened after that. Could be any number of things, but truthfully, I'm not particularly concerned at this point in time. I can't remember the exact name of this type of malfunction, but I hope I described it well enough.
That being said, the AK PMAGs while nice, posed an issue. While they hold 5 rounds, they hold them very tightly. I noticed that when I loaded up a mag to 5 rounds, I would have to really hammer it home for it to seat correctly and catch the mag release/catch. I also found that cycling the bolt was harder with 5 rounds in the mag. I think there is too much spring pressure pushing against the bolt when a 5-round mag is inserted. I'm not saying that it can't be done, but I had better luck loading in 4 rounds into each mag. I think if the PMAGs were pinned to 5.5 rounds it would alleviate the problem.
Other things I noticed was shell ejections. They would be launched 2m back and to the right in a consistent 1m grouping. Nothing wrong with this, just something I noticed.
In terms of performance, other than the initial issue, I had no problems whatsoever. Gun is heavy and I think would benefit from a UBR stock to help balance it out. I personally have a Magpul Fixed MOE stock on order. I didn't want to break the bank on the rifle as I wanted to build a KISS style rifle to pay homage to the AK series while still keeping that tacticool look inherent of the AR platform.
I only shot it out to 50 yards today I didn't have any spotter with me, so shooting it out to 100 would have been pointless as I would not have been able to see my hits on target. My shooting skills aren't the best. I need more practice, hence why I bought this gun (cheap ammo). With a better trigger I can honestly say that this is 1.5-2 MOA gun. I was able to squeeze off some 1MOA groups at 50 yards.
On my rifle, I did have a PWS FSC30 break installed. It certainly made the gun shoot well. Recoil was like a strong push. Best way I can describe it would be like going from a 9mm to a .45. The .45 lacks the snap, but has the push. That's how this gun felt to me vs shooting a 5.56 AR. Overall I found it very pleasant and fun.
Other than that, everything else that I noted were inherent to the rifle, such as having to rack the bolt every time a new mag was inserted as there was no bolt hold open. I knew this going in and while it is different and takes getting used to vs an AR, it was/is not a deal breaker for me. I would have zero issue with this had Canada have full capacity magazines.
I will update this once I shoot it more. I hope to do a 2-day rifle course in the near future, and plan on using this for one of the days. I will post again if and when I do.
