I was at a gun store a short time ago, and was told by the clerk as he was showing me a new Russian made hammer coach gun, you know the make, starts with a B, and I can't spell anyway. well i was told that the hammers do function, only as cosmetic, as they don't interact with the firing pin. Its all done internally. So I was wondering if all new made coach guns are made this way? As compared to the originals? and are any new made hammer coach guns actually interact with the firing pin like the original ones?

All the Baikal hammer guns I have seen had functional hammers. Could you see the heads of the firing pins?
There was a Chinese made gun that didn't - the "hammers" were more cocking indicators.

Baikal offer both versions i.e. ones with fully functional external (rebounding) hammers with Cyl bbls as well as the non-functional (cosmetic) hammers with choked bbls. The two also differ in price.

Both are well made, however. Personally, the later has no great appeal, well, other than the choke feature.

As an afterthought, I really liked the CZ Hammer Coachgun.

I have a Baikal Bounty Hunter with functioning hammers.
