Hey all,
been playing with some 155 gr Sierra palma matchkings. shot this group..

using 41.7 grains of varget with a COAL of 2.79". Tried figuring out the distance to the lans, with out buying a specific tool. What I did, was took a bullet, put it in a resized case, and closed the bolt on it in my chamber.
I used a cleaning rod inserted down the barrel to carefully push the cartridge back out while I pulled the bolt back. At this point the COAL was 2.955". Question would be, does this actually tell me anything? and if so, would seating bullets to 2.950 be desirable since factory standards and recommended COAL in every manual says 2.81 to be used by heavy bullets (165+) and 2.77 for 155 grains. 2 tenths of an inch is a fair amount.
Let me know what you think!
Mark
PS. Rifle in question is a Tikka T3 Varmint HB SS .308. Magazine max length is 2.83, but this is for punching paper, don't really need the mag.
PPS. That group measured .254 on center, best group I've had to date, this group was developed from a three shot group backed by 42 grains of varget that shot 3/4"
