I have a question about the COAL and larger long bullets. I'm trying berger 190 gr VLD hunting bullets for my first crack at re-loading. I'm loading in 300 win mag and I've noticed to keep the COAL to the max spec @ 3.340" the bullets need to be seated back quite far. Now these bullets seem fine to do that but what about the heavier bullets like the 210s VLDs or 212 EDL-X. I measured from case end to tip of the bullet, is this the proper way or should I measure from the taper of the bullet and have a longer COAL then stated in the manual with these longer aerodynamic bullets.
I also noticed that my once fired Hornady brass is actually undersized between 2.604-2.613" when the data says brand new should be 2.61" and a max length of 2.620". So I took some fresh unfired 200 gr precision hunters that I had and measured the case and the are actully between 2.597 and 2.605 (checked 20) is this normal?
