Depends on what kind of accuracy you want!

What seating die are you using? If you're using bulk bullets, 3 thou isn't bad.

I can't recall the variance I'm getting with my VMAX and AMAX bullets, but I'm not competing and the gophers can't tell the difference. :)
 
The measurement from the base of the round to the ogive of the bullet is what you are after. Even match bullets from the same box vary in length so COAL doesn't mean much.

X2.....measure with a comparator....that will be a meaningful measurement.
