Collecting Dewats?

Beautiful collection! I seriously love the mg34/42 pics! Haha I was lucky enough to hold only one of those at the local gunshow.

My brother and I were shooting a TNW mg34 in a laffette on tuesday, no need to look for a dewat on that one. I would love to fired on on full auto though. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang... is not the same as bopbopbopbopbopbopbopbop...

Let's play a game...

Guess the DEWAT:

the only dewat I have is a STEN, I bought it way back when it was still possible to build your own semi auto STEN, and I wanted it for measurements.

Well thanks to that unnamed #### that screwed everyone in order to make a buck (well thousands really) hawking his questionable products…… making your own has become imposable as the firearms lab will find a way to prohibit it and send your hard work to the smelter.

So my STEN hangs on the wall in my gun room as a reminder, at least it’s an early LongBranch #### and click.

on and I have 2 spare springs :)

an American closed bolt sten should pass no problem most used a semi auto AR trigger group but then again that's no fun

Geezus, David… really??? I mean… REALLY??

Can I touch them?? Do you have like, a petting zoo or something ??

No??? Why not??!!

Great thread, and just the right place methinks, to ask one of my trademark silly questions…

I just bought an almost new L1A1 off the EE a while back, which I would have to guess is actually unissued and unfired… it’s in THAT nice shape… so now that I have a true, mint FN, I find myself with a bunch of parts I got from Int’l Firearms WAY back in the early 90’s when these little darlings were legal.

Sooo… I have all this sh1te that I do not need:

Her comes the dumb question ( because as a 12.5 holder I SHOULD know this )

1) Can I LEGALLY build up 2 nice dewat L1A1’s from all this crap? ( Yes… by myself ! )

2) What are “The Rules” I have to work to? We have heard that “####&Click” is now Verboten here in the Peoples Republik of Kanada, but I am a pretty decent welder… all I need are the guidelines on HOW to do this. Where to find such a compendium of précis?

3) Too bad… the Aussie “kits” are mint… barrels are mint…shame to weld them up, but like everyone is saying here, the day will probably NEVER come that we can fire these ever again. AND anyways…

4) … they are British receivers ( Enfield and BSA ) but with Aussie lowers… so really, they would never amount to anything remotely “collectable”… even if I could have pieced them together and found the Magic Shire selection of Locking Shoulders to play Mix-n’-Match the headspacing with… on what could ever be a couple of “Franken-FAL’s” .

5) So once I welds them all up, then what? Are they automatically de-registered? They WERE just stripped receivers… so what’s the procedure to get them re-classified as good-lookin’ boat anchors so I could sell them on the EE.

6) And finally, a quick, curious, question… why is one of those Resin plastic “Replicas” prohibited? WTF…am I missing something here?
Wouldn’t a Dewat, by definition, also be a “Replica” ?

Thanks for any input you might have… I just can’t see myself just rolling over like a good little peasent and turning the receivers over to “ La Surete” so they can melt them down.

A resin model is a replica, and prohibited.
A dewat was a firearm, and is uncontrolled.
To get a registered firearm out of the registry, the powers that be must be convinced that it has been deactivated according to their rules. They might or might not accept what you do.
Here is another possibility - make up a display of an "exploded" firearm - all parts mounted on a framed panel, with the regulated part, the receiver, being tastefully rendered inoperative.

Do not make any assumptions about what might or might not pass.
Some US semi autos use AR trigger groups; many do not.
Are you aware of what is currently approved by the SFSS?

Yes, I do have my 12.5 ...and have for a long time! ( I still have the Indian 1A1 I bought at the same time as these two British receivers... and now, a new Aussie L1A1)

But you ask an interesting question... Why I would assemble dewats when I have registered receivers?

I guess the answer is: I now own 2 perfectly good FN rifles, numbers match, etc, etc... why would I want 2 mismatched Brit uppers with Aussie lowers?

... and even if I could put the 2 British ones back together ( the locking shoulders aren't easy to come by...) who the hell is out there to buy them? Not many of us out there with 12.X or anything.

I really think that I would rather build 2 nice dewats out of the parts... then at least TWO young Canadians who will never be able to own one, would at least have a chance to fill that hole in their collection.

And no, this is NOT an ideal solution by any means!! I absolutely HATE the idea of welding up my 2 Aussie barrels... they are MINT... but what else to do with a box of stuff which will never otherwise see the light of day?

That's why this thread is interesting to me... what's the consensus amongst the Milsurp crowd, then ??

Perhaps just sell the parts as-is? But to whom?

Most new collectors will probably NEVER own a "live" one (our sh1thead politicians made damn sure of that) so what about the next step 'down' from that ...

a well done dewat might just fill the bill and get the damn things out there and enjoyed.

Anyways.... Opinions?

PS: Navy Shooter--- that FN looks pretty skeevy to me... am I right? ( Do I win a nice cold Oland's ?)
